Scoop is my Favorite!

I was excited to go home this morning since I was finally able to find the Super Wings toy that IJ, my nephew, has been talking about since Christmas. He wanted to have a Donnie toy since he already has Jet, and Donnie is Jet’s best friend. I have been checking toy stores since last month and alas! today, I finally saw Donnie on the shelves!

As soon as I got home, I handed IJ the paper bag containing his new toy. He was very excited to open it and when he finally did, I told him, “Wow! That’s Donnie, right?” We unboxed the toy and he played with it right away. After a few minutes, I noticed him gazing on the box of the toy and he said, “This is not Donnie”. I am quite surprised because all the while I thought I scored the toy he wanted! Instead of Donnie, what I bought was Scoop, another character in Super Wings. 🙃

I was kind of disappointed but IJ went to me and told me, “Ninan, this is Scoop, it’s my favorite!” Well, he’s three years old and he tends to have a lot of favorites! 😆 But I am happy that even if it wasn’t Donnie, he was still very much appreciative of Scoop, whom he was just acquainted with today! Haha. How innocent and pure a child can be!!

It made me wish I had the same disposition as IJ whenever I do not get what I have hoped for. See, Scoop may not be Donnie but it does not mean Scoop is less great than Donnie. But, when you’re a stubborn adult, if it is not Donnie, it is not Donnie, period. In reality, we tend to want a lot of things badly and most probably, we won’t be able to get them all. When things fall short, it is good to be reminded that what we are blessed with is not of lesser value than what we have aimed for. Maybe in our limited viewpoint, it is, but in God’s lens, it is what’s best for us at that very moment.

I pray that as 2020 rolls in, we find it in our hearts to be appreciative of the things we might not have expected but we still get. Every little thing is a blessing after all – that very breath you breathe, another day you wake up, hardships that rack up lessons – every single thing that happens in every minute of every day is nothing short of a miracle.

This realization leaves me with so much awe, knowing it is only really God’s grace upon grace that allowed us to be in whichever moment we are in now. May we not take it for granted. 🙂

Here’s to a year filled with wide-eyed wonder!

Happy New Year!
